The R26 is the 17th Formula 1 - racing cars from Renault and came in all 18 races of the Formula 1 World Championship in 2006 are used. The gearbox and RS26 V8 engine are Renault's own designs.

Technology and development

According to the changes in the regulations for the 2006 season, the new bolide was powered for the first time by the new eight-cylinder engines with a maximum displacement of 2.4 liters and not by the ten-cylinder engines with 3.0 liters displacement from previous years.

Season course

In the first half of the season, the team achieved seven Grand Prix victories and six pole positions and was thus able to develop a lead in the drivers 'and constructors' championships. The second half of the season was mainly dominated by Ferrari .

As in the previous year, Fernando Alonso was world driver champion (134 points), Renault (206 points) successfully defended the constructors' title.
