The R25 is the 16th Formula 1 - racing cars from Renault and came in all 19 races of the Formula 1 World Championship 2005 are used. The gearbox and the RS25-V10 engine are Renault's own designs.
technology
From the 2005 season onwards, the regulations required the engine to be used for two entire racing weekends. As in the previous year, Renault relied on a V10 engine with a 72 ° cylinder bank angle . However, the focus was lower compared to its predecessor. Since V8 engines were used from the 2006 season , this was Renault's last 10-cylinder engine.
From September 2005 Renault used a so-called vibration damper for the first time in a Formula 1 racing car. It was a 10 kg weight on a spring in the vehicle nose. This acted against vibrations and ensured that the vehicle lay quieter on the track, which benefited the aerodynamics.
driver
The drivers were the Italian Giancarlo Fisichella and the Spaniard Fernando Alonso .
Season course
During the season, the car proved to be slower than the McLaren MP4-20 in numerous places . This is also shown by the number of wins, which was 8-10 for McLaren. In the end, Renault was able to defend both world championships thanks to the reliability of the car and the consistency of the drivers. Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella took eight wins. They also achieved the last victory and title for a Formula 1 car with a V10 drive.
