The Honda RA106 was the Formula 1 racing cars from Honda for the season 2006 , which took part in all 18 races of the season. Before the start of the season, Honda had taken over the long-standing customer team BAR . It was Honda's first car since 1968 .
Technology and development
In contrast to BAR in previous years, Honda developed a completely new vehicle for the 2006 season. It was equipped with its own RA106E V8 engine, which had a cylinder bank angle of 90 °. The petrol was supplied by Nippon Oil and Elf Aquitaine . The contract with the French tire supplier Michelin was maintained after the takeover and the vehicle was equipped with tires from this manufacturer. An in-house sequential seven-speed gearbox was used as the transmission. The vehicle was designed by Geoff Willis .
Painting and sponsorship
The basic color of the Honda RA106 was white with black front and rear wings and a red air scoop and nose side. The main sponsor Lucky Strike was dominant and advertised extensively on the side pods, the front wing and the nose. In countries where tobacco advertising was banned, the Lucky Strike logo was replaced by a circle made up of various red lines. Honda also advertised itself on the engine cover and rear wing. Further sponsors were Intercond , ENEOS and Michelin.
driver
Jenson Button stayed in the team. Rubens Barrichello , previously a regular driver at Ferrari , was hired as a new addition to Takuma Satō . The third driver was Anthony Davidson . Marco Andretti , Adam Carroll , Danilo Dirani , James Rossiter and Alan van der Merwe were employed as test drivers .
2006 season
The unreliable car was in the lower midfield at the beginning of the season. Particularly disappointing was an engine failure of the fourth-placed Button at the Australian Grand Prix in the last corner before the finish. The middle of the season marked a low point and the vehicles fell out in rows. At the end of the season, however, the situation stabilized, and the vehicles were now consistently in the front midfield. The best result of the season was Button's victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix . However, Barrichello disappointed and achieved two fourth places as the best result of the season. With one win, three podiums and 86 points, Honda finished fourth in the constructors' championship.
