Hermann Finzenhagen

Carl Hermann Ludwig Finzenhagen (born January 6, 1825 in Oebisfelde , † August 14, 1914 in Magdeburg ) was a German organist, conductor and composer.

Life

Hermann Finzenhagen was a son of the teacher Friedrich Finzenhagen in Oebisfelde. He attended the Royal Evangelical Teachers' College in Magdeburg. In 1849 he became a teacher at the secondary school for girls.

From the end of 1851 he worked as an organist at the Jacobi Church in Magdeburg, which is no longer in existence . In 1861 he founded a mixed choir, the association for sacred and secular choral singing , which was also known in Magdeburg as the Finzenhagenscher Gesangverein . The choir participated in festive services. With hosted him Finzenhagen folk concerts with free admission.

His son Ludwig Hermann Otto Finzenhagen (1860–1931) also became an organist in Magdeburg.
