The Acronis AG is a Swiss software company headquartered in Schaffhausen and operational headquarters in Singapore . It develops data backup , recovery and security solutions for physical and virtual servers as well as cloud environments. Acronis software is sold in approximately 180 countries and is available in 14 languages. The company's German subsidiary is Acronis Germany GmbH , based in Munich .

Acronis was founded in 2002. The current disaster recovery and data protection solutions have since emerged from the original software for hard disk partitioning and boot loader . The products are used by private users as well as by small and medium-sized companies as well as international corporations - such as the BT Group , Oxford Royal Dutch Shell and Volkswagen . Acronis employs around 1,500 people in 18 countries (as of August 2020).

In 2014, Acronis moved its main operational headquarters from Boston to Singapore . However, the seat remains in Schaffhausen . In early 2015, it was announced that Acronis was planning to go public in 2016; In 2019 the media reported again about a possible IPO.

Technologies and Products

Acronis products are based on patented disk imaging and bare metal restore technologies. The main focus is on providing solutions that keep data and systems always available and are easy to use even for laypeople. In 2011, the company launched a solution that combines disaster recovery and data protection in one product.

The product range includes software for backup & deployment, hard drive management and security for companies and private users, as well as virtualization software. Some well-known programs are Acronis True Image Home, Acronis Backup & Recovery, and Acronis Disk Director.
