The 2018 US Grand Prix (officially Formula 1 Pirelli 2018 United States Grand Prix ) took place on October 21 at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin and was the eighteenth race of the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship .

After the Japanese Grand Prix , Lewis Hamilton led the drivers' standings with 67 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel and 124 points ahead of Valtteri Bottas . Only Hamilton and Vettel had a chance of the world title. In the constructors' championship, Mercedes led Ferrari with 78 points and Red Bull Racing with 219 points . Only Mercedes and Ferrari could become constructors' world champions.
At the US Grand Prix, Pirelli provided the drivers with the tire compounds P Zero Soft (yellow), P Zero Supersoft (red), P Zero Ultrasoft (purple), as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue) for wet conditions .
There were again two DRS zones, one of which was slightly changed compared to the previous year. The first zone was on the back straight and began 250 meters (instead of 320 meters as before) after turn eleven , the measuring point was 150 meters after turn ten . The second DRS zone was on the start-finish straight and began 80 meters after the last bend. The measuring point was 65 meters after curve 18 .
Max Verstappen (eight), Marcus Ericsson , Romain Grosjean (seven each), Lance Stroll (six), Nico Hülkenberg (five), Pierre Gasly , Brendon Hartley , Sergio Pérez , Sergei Sirotkin (four each), Kevin Magnussen , Vettel (each three), Bottas, Esteban Ocon , Kimi Räikkönen , Daniel Ricciardo , Carlos Sainz jr. (two each), Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne (one each) started the weekend with penalty points.
With Hamilton (six times) and Vettel (once) two former winners competed at this Grand Prix. Hamilton won the race once when it was held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2007 .
Race stewards were Silvia Bellot (ESP), Dennis Dean (USA), Gerd Ennser (DEU) and Derek Warwick (GBR).
