Lise Lotte Möller (born November 18, 1912 - † March 8, 1996 in Hamburg ) was a German art historian and from 1962 to 1971 director of the Museum of Art and Industry in Hamburg.

Life

She completed a degree in art history, especially with Erwin Panofsky at the University of Hamburg , in December 1937 with a doctorate . Her dissertation topic was: The changes in the idea of art in Italian art theory from the fifteenth to the end of the sixteenth century.

She then went to the Museum of Arts and Crafts as a volunteer. There she published a study on the magnificent binding of a lectionary from Hamburg's St. Petrikirche, which is kept in the museum . This was followed by an assistant position at the Art History Institute in Florence and an internship at the Prussian Palace Administration in Berlin with Ernst Gall .

In 1962 she succeeded Erich Meyer as director of the Museum of Art and Industry. In a tribute to the art historian Theodor Müller it says: “Fundamental for Lise Lotte Möller was the teaching of Erwin Panofsky in Hamburg and thus her affiliation to the circle of ideas and research of Aby Warburg on the history of artistic and intellectual reception of antiquities in the West. Ms. Möller remained loyal to him (Panofsky) even in the years of the most severe challenges. "

Her monograph on the so-called Wrangel cabinet , an inlaid piece of furniture , was valued by experts . Theodor Müller: "... a monograph that has become just as important for the art history of the southern German furniture of the Renaissance and Mannerism as it is for the interpretation of the use of ornamental master sheets."
