The M 282 is a four-cylinder - petrol engine from Mercedes-Benz . The engine is the successor to the 1.6-liter variant of the M 270 and will initially be offered in the A-Class ( W 177 ) . The M 282 was developed under the leadership of Mercedes-Benz in cooperation with Renault . The engine will be manufactured by MDC Power GmbH in the Kölleda plant and in future also in the Beijing plant.

technology

Base engine

The four-cylinder in - line engine is an all-aluminum construction. The displacement is 1332 cm³ with a bore of 72.2 mm and a stroke of 81.4 mm; the cylinder spacing 85 mm, which favors smaller dimensions. The compression ratio is 10.6. The components of the short engine are contributed by Renault. The running surfaces of the cylinders and pistons have coatings for less friction.

The four valves per cylinder ( four-valve technology ) are controlled by two overhead camshafts driven by a timing chain .

In the A 200 in conjunction with the dual clutch transmission (7G-DCT transmission from Getrag for a surcharge of 2000 euros), Mercedes-Benz uses cylinder deactivation in the partial load range for the first time in a four-cylinder engine . When the load requirement is low in the range from 1250 to 3800 rpm, the inlet and outlet valves of the second and third cylinders are closed via a valve lift adjustment. The remaining two cylinders run under a higher load and thus more efficiently.

The cylinder head is referred to by the manufacturer as a delta cylinder head due to its special shape . The multi-hole injection nozzles are arranged centrally in the combustion chamber. It is a little higher, but it is much narrower and lighter than conventional cylinder heads. Another advantage are the partially integrated intake and exhaust manifolds, which enable a compact design. A high-pressure injection pump with a maximum of 250 bar, for which Daimler holds a patent, is used.

The Mercedes-Benz M 282 is available with a manual six-speed transmission, dual clutch transmission 7G-DCT or 8G-DCT (with plug-in hybrid ) and with 4MATIC all - wheel drive.

Charging and exhaust

The engine has an exhaust gas turbocharger with an electrically controlled wastegate valve .

A three-way catalytic converter is initially used behind the turbine of the turbocharger . The engine has a particle filter as standard .
