BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer (internal series designation F46 ) is a compact van from the German car manufacturer BMW .
Model history
The 2 Series Gran Tourer was presented on February 12, 2015. At the start of series production, two gasoline engines (218i and 220i) and three diesel engines (216d, 218d and 220d xDrive) were available. The entry-level models 214d and 216i or a 220d variant without xDrive and automatic transmission were available from July 2015. The F46 is produced at the BMW plant in Regensburg .
The 2 Series Gran Tourer is a stretched variant of the 2 Series Active Tourer (internal BMW model name F45) and is also based on the front-wheel drive platform shared by the Tourer with the Mini. The standard equipment of the rear seat can be moved 13 cm and its backrest can be adjusted in three stages. The enlarged wheelbase enables an optionally available third row of seats (for a 6th and 7th person), which over 70% of customers wanted (as of the end of 2016).
In 2015 he was awarded the golden steering wheel in the family car class.
By October 2016, over 38,900 Gran Tourers had been sold worldwide. In December 2016, according to a press report, a successor to this 2-series model was controversial on the BMW board due to image problems. Since the end of October 2017, this point has been decided to the disadvantage of the Gran Tourer.
At the beginning of 2018 the 2 Series Gran Tourer was revised (so-called model upgrade ). From March 2018, the smaller gasoline engines were already equipped with gasoline particulate filters .
landing gear
At the front, the vehicle has a newly developed single-joint strut axle. Light components, high component rigidity and coordinated axle and elastokinematics result in agile steering behavior, high accuracy and a steering feel that is largely free of drive influences. Swivel bearings made of aluminum, the use of high-strength steels for axle carriers and wishbones as well as a hollow anti- roll bar with discontinuous wall thickness reduce unsprung masses. The front and rear dampers are decoupled from the body by three-way support bearings.
The Gran Tourer has an electromechanical rack and pinion power steering. The steering gear forms a component with the servo unit, the steering power assistance acts directly and with low friction on the pinion (single pinion). Hardware and software have been matched to the front-wheel drive. The "Servotronic" regulates the steering assistance depending on the speed. Variable sports steering is available on request, which adapts the gear ratio in the steering gear to the angle of the steering wheel so that parking and turning maneuvers are associated with fewer steering movements. The 214d already has internally ventilated disc brakes at the front .
The rear wheels are guided by a newly developed multi-link axle that is connected to the body via the axle carrier. High-strength steels, particularly stiff links and a hollow anti-roll bar are used. Disc brakes are also installed at the rear.
