The BMW 503 , which was built from 1956 to 1959 as a coupé and convertible, can be considered the origin of the BMW 6 Series . Then the luxury class coupe BMW 3200 CS took over this role (1962-1965). This in turn was replaced by a coupé from the upper middle class 2000 CS ("New Class") (1965-1970). The supplement and successor to the first real 6 Series was the luxury class coupé 3.0 CSi (E9) (1968–1975).
