The BMW M2 coupe is a sports coupe and the highly motorized version of the 2-series of BMW .
In October 2015 the M2 Coupé was presented to the public on the Internet, series production at the BMW plant in Leipzig started on October 19, 2015, the official trade fair premiere took place at NAIAS 2016 and the delivery of the first vehicles was scheduled for April 2016. It is located below the M4 and above the BMW M240i .
In 2017, the 2-series coupés were facelifted. The design of the front and rear lights was changed. LED headlights became standard equipment.
In summer 2018, with the introduction of the M2 Competition, a technical change to the M2 took place.
technology
The engine, which was presented together with the X4 M40i a few days earlier, is based on the N55 , a turbo in-line six-cylinder with 2979 cm³ displacement. For use in the M2 , this got some components from the sister model S55 in order to be more stable . These are in detail the forged crankshaft , the crankshaft main bearing shells as well as its pistons and spark plugs . It differs from the S55 u. a. characterized in that it and thus a turbocharger less has a lower power output of 272 kW (370 hp) and in the mode "overboost" a maximum torque of 500 Nm 1450-4750 min -1 developed.
There is a choice of a manual six-speed gearbox and a 7-speed "M double clutch gearbox "; the latter results in improved acceleration and slightly lower consumption despite 35 kilograms more weight.
The consumption of the engine, which is even more powerful than the M235i, is 8.5 l / 100 km with the manual and 7.9 l / 100 km with the optional dual clutch transmission in the third mix.
The "M double clutch transmission" is a 7-speed double clutch transmission with so-called "Drivelogic", which, according to BMW, is specially designed for the "M high-speed engines". The system has traction-optimized automatic gear selection, Launch Control , "Low Speed Assistance" and an "Auto Start Stop" function . It enables very quick gear changes without interrupting the tractive effort. Two sub-transmissions, each with their own clutch, transmit the engine power undiminished to the rear wheels. It is controlled automatically or manually using shift paddles on the steering wheel or the shift lever. As with the "Launch Control", which allows a standstill with maximum acceleration, this means: Shifting at full throttle, without a clutch pedal, with continuous power transmission. The Drivelogic provides three shift programs to choose from in both automated (D mode) and manual (S mode) - from extremely sporty to comfortable or fuel-efficient.
Not only the dual clutch transmission, also the differential with multi-plate lock and the entire front and five-link rear axle , some of which are made of aluminum, come from the M3 / M4. The diameter of the brake discs is 380 mm at the front and 370 mm at the rear.
M2 Competition
In April 2018, at Auto China in Beijing, BMW presented the M2 Competition, a variant with an increased output of 30 kW (40 PS). For this, BMW resorted to an engine from the BMW engine series BMW S55 ; in the M2 and M4 it meets stricter emissions regulations. Because it has a gasoline particle filter "in relevant EU countries" . When choosing the so-called M Driver's Package , which includes a voucher for driver training, the maximum speed is limited to 280 km / h instead of 250. The M2 Competition has been delivered since September 2018.
