The BMW 2004 and the less powerful BMW 1804 are upper middle class cars that were built by BMW South Africa in 1973/1974 as the successor to the 2000 SA and 1800 SA models .

The BMW 2004 was equipped with the drive of the BMW 2000, which was manufactured in Germany until 1972 . This was a four-cylinder in-line engine with 1990 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 89 mm × 80 mm) and 74 kW (100 hp) output at 5800 min −1 , in conjunction with a 4-speed manual transmission with center shift (type 2004) or a 3-stage automatic transmission (type 2004 A).

The BMW 1804 with a four-cylinder in-line engine with 1767 cc capacity and 66 kW (90 hp) at 5800 min -1 equipped.

The body of the car, which was manufactured exclusively as a 4-door sedan, was based on that of the Glas 1700 . The front was provided with the radiator grille and the indicators of the BMW 2800 CS and the double headlights of the BMW 520 . The rear lights also came from the BMW 520.

In two years, 1404 copies were built, 588 of them with automatic transmission.
