The BMW 505 was the prototype of a Pullman limousine that BMW presented at the IAA in 1955 and that Chancellor Konrad Adenauer offered as an alternative to his company car, a Mercedes-Benz 300 c .

The car was based on the chassis of a 502, which had been extended by 200 mm . The engine was a V8 with a displacement of 3168 cm³ and 120 hp (88 kW). In addition, Michelotti drew a Pullman body in the Italian style, which was similar to the later Mercedes-Benz 300 d . The front largely corresponded to that of the BMW 503 . The car was equipped with all the extras of the time, for example electro-hydraulic window regulators, intercom for the driver, club chairs in the rear, writing tablet with lighting, remote control for the radio and the best carpets and wood paneling.

Adenauer then decided, however, to stay with Mercedes - allegedly because at the end of a test drive his hat hit the edge of the roof of the BMW. After this refusal, BMW no longer wanted to take the risk of series production and left it with two copies.
