The BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid is the concept vehicle of the first mild hybrid from BMW. The concept car premiered at the Paris Motor Show in October 2008. The model was formally shown at the IAA 2009 under the designation BMW Active Hybrid 7 as a series model and from spring 2010 in series production.

In the BMW 7 series concept vehicle, in addition to an internal combustion engine ( N63 ), which is based on a V8 engine with two turbochargers ( called Twin Turbo by BMW ) with gasoline direct injection (called High Precision Injection by BMW ) from the BMW 750i (there with 300 kW / 408 PS), an electric machine is also used to purely support the combustion engine. The electric machine is integrated between the engine and the transmission and has a maximum engine output of 15 kW and a maximum torque of 210 Nm to 2800 rpm. The aim of the mild hybrid concept is to support the eight-cylinder gasoline engine through the electric drive to increase performance and to reduce it, mainly in city traffic, through recuperation (technology) ( braking energy recovery ), fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions.
