The BMW 325 was a light standard car of the Wehrmacht , which the Bayerische Motorenwerke manufactured in their Eisenach plant from 1937 to 1940 . Light standard cars with the same chassis and body were also manufactured by Stoewer in Stettin and by Hanomag in Hanover, but these companies used their own engines.
The open Kübelwagen had a wheelbase of 2400 mm and was equipped with a six-cylinder in - line engine with a displacement of 1971 cm³. Consisting of the BMW 326 originating motor with two Solex - updraft gasifiers was on dry sump lubrication converted and made 50 hp (37 kW) at 3750 min -1 . The four-wheel drive car had a five-speed gearbox and three limited slip differentials . All wheels had drum brakes with cable actuation.
In addition to the models with front-axle steering, cars with all-wheel steering were also built, which almost halved the turning circle diameter from 12.7 m to 6.5 m. The fuel consumption was 17 l / 100 km on the road and 25 l / 100 km off-road.
Because of the high level of complexity, the cars were heavy and prone to repair. Most of the vehicles had to be abandoned defective during the war against the Soviet Union .
In four years, 3,225 vehicles were built at the BMW plant in Eisenach. Production there was discontinued in 1941 and Stoewer continued to build the light standard cars as the sole manufacturer until 1943.
