BMW B47
|
The B47 is a turbocharged four-cylinder - diesel engine of the automobile manufacturer BMW . Completely redeveloped, it made its debut in 2014 in the BMW X3 and replaced its predecessor, the N47 . Together with the B37 (in-line three-cylinder diesel engine) and the B57 (in- line six-cylinder diesel engine) and the three gasoline engines B38 ( three-cylinder ), B48 ( four-cylinder ) and B58 ( six-cylinder ), the B47 is one of the modular engines introduced by BMW in 2013/2014. The modular engines are used in both BMW models and MINI models.
construction
Like its predecessor, the N47 , the B47 has four cylinders in line, common rail injection , 1.995 cc displacement and also uses balance shafts. The volume of 500 cm³ per cylinder resulted from thermodynamic and efficiency considerations. In most of the variants, a roller-bearing turbo charger with adjustable turbine guide vanes is installed; the most powerful versions (165 kW or 170 kW) are equipped with two turbo chargers that can work in parallel according to the principle of register supercharging as well as in series with multi-stage supercharging .
The acoustic behavior of the engine was also important during development. Here is u. a. the combustion through the injection system is nail-optimized, and various sound sources are encapsulated. Solenoid valve injectors are used in the engine .
Innovations
Compared to the N47 , the B47 offers more power and higher torque over the entire speed range in all expansion stages . This ensures better acceleration and elasticity values. A new combustion chamber pressure sensor also makes it possible to operate the engine closer to its optimal point on the combustion side. The B47 complies with the EU6 emissions standard and, depending on the variant and gearbox , reduces the standard consumption by 0.1 to 0.4 liters compared to the N47 .
The same parts , which are also used in other new engines, such as the three-cylinder diesel B37 , but also the gasoline engines of the modular system, result in greater flexibility in production in the event of fluctuations in demand and a reduction in costs.
Technical revision
In November 2017 it was announced that all variants will receive the biturbo charger: Technical revision B47TÜ1. All engines have also received Adblue injection. Higher injection pressures - 2,500 bar for the 218d and even 2,700 bar (Tourer) for the 220d - as well as detailed improvements in the shapes and surfaces of cylinder liners ( shape honing of the cylinder liners) and pistons, belt drive and oil supply contribute to lower fuel consumption. Solenoid valve injectors are also used for the strong variants.
From November 2019, the B47 was also equipped with a starter generator via a 48V electrical system, making it a mild hybrid. The starter generator enables even more efficient utilization of the recuperation power, which not only supplies the on-board electronics, but also enables an overboost function. Thus, among other things, the turbo lag can be minimized and supporting drive power can be delivered. The maximum additional drive power is 8 kW (11 PS). In addition, the start-stop function was further optimized through this measure, which enabled the engine to be started without jerks and with low levels of vibration. The scope of the sailing function has also been expanded; in addition to the familiar decoupling of the engine from the drive train, the engine can be switched off completely at higher speeds.
