The BMW B48 is a four-cylinder - petrol engine with turbo charger of the automobile manufacturer BMW .

Together with the B38 (in-line three-cylinder engine ) and B58 (in- line six-cylinder engine ) and the two diesel engines B37 ( three-cylinder ) and B47 ( four-cylinder ), the B48 is one of the modular engines introduced by BMW in 2013/2014. The BMW plant in Munich is the lead plant for the B38, B48 and B58 engines. The modular engines are used in both BMW and MINI models. In this way, the engines previously developed in cooperation between BMW and the PSA Group are gradually being replaced in the MINI models. The engines meet the EU6 emissions standard .

construction

The BMW B48 inline four-cylinder engine is equipped with TwinPower Turbo technology. In addition to turbocharging , the B48 is equipped with direct injection , fully variable valve control and variable camshaft control.
The oil pan and crankcase (engine block) in "closed deck" design are made of aluminum, with the cylinder liners coated with a hard iron alloy 0.3 mm thick. As in the M20 introduced in 1977, the cylinder center distance is 91 millimeters.
Two balance shafts are installed to absorb first and second order vibrations .
From the second half of 2017 to mid-2018, the technical revision (TÜ1 / -M1 / -O1 / -T1) in the engine series was successively introduced in the model series, with improvements in warm-up, Effect on exhaust gas behavior and efficiency.
