BMW in Munich (overview)

The BMW plant in Munich (today's name: BMW Group Plant in Munich ) is the main plant of the car manufacturer BMW in the state capital of Munich on Lerchenauer Strasse in the Milbertshofen-Am Hart district . The plant, located directly north of the BMW four-cylinder , has been located within a residential area of Am Riesenfeld since 1960 .

Around 7,800 employees from over 50 nations work at this location, including around 850 trainees. Every day, around 950 vehicles of the BMW 3 Series (3 Series Sedan and Touring) and 4 Series (Coupé and its M version) as well as over 3,000 engines are built here - integrated into the global production network.

The origins of BMW production go back to 1917. BMW has had its headquarters on Lerchenauer Strasse east of today's Olympic Park since 1922 . First aircraft engines were built, then motorcycles, and finally automobiles and vehicle engines . The BMW Group plant in Munich is one of the most modern plants in Europe today. At the attached research and innovation center on Knorrstrasse , research is carried out on the automobiles of the future. BMW Research and Technology is located at Hanauer Strasse 46 . In November 2019, BMW opened the Battery Cell Competence Center on Detmoldstrasse in Lerchenau .
