The BMW B37 is a series of three-cylinder - diesel engine of the automobile manufacturer BMW . Together with the B47 (in- line four-cylinder diesel engine) and the B57 (in- line six-cylinder diesel engine) and the three gasoline engines B38 ( three-cylinder ), B48 ( four-cylinder ) and B58 ( six-cylinder ), the B37 is one of the modular engines introduced by BMW in 2013/2014. The modular engines are used in BMW models and also in MINI-Models built in. They are gradually replacing the four-cylinder N47 engines used in the MINI models (N47C16K1 in the MINI One D, N47C16U1 in the MINI Cooper D and N47C20U1 in the MINI Cooper SD). The B37 meets the EU6 emissions standard .

construction

The BMW B37 in-line three-cylinder diesel engine has a turbocharger with adjustable turbine guide vanes , adjustable camshafts and common rail direct injection . BMW calls this "TwinPower Turbo technology". The volume of 500 cm³ per cylinder resulted from thermodynamic and efficiency considerations. The crankcase (engine block) is made of aluminum.

Technical revision at the end of 2017

The technical revision of the engine was announced in November 2017 ("B37TÜ1"). All engines received Adblue injection, the injection pressure was also increased to 2,200 bar, the shapes and surfaces of cylinder liners (shape honing of the cylinder liners) and pistons, belt drive and oil supply improved in detail. This complies with the EU6c emissions standard and further reduces consumption and noise.
