The BMW M47 is a turbocharged inline four-cylinder diesel engine from the automobile manufacturer BMW . Production started in March 1998 in Steyr .

The engines introduced in the BMW E46 (320d) in 1998 were initially equipped with a VP44 distributor injection pump. In September 2001 (in the E46 318d only from 2003) they were revised and were henceforth called M47TÜ. This version was equipped with common rail injection and a turbocharger with adjustable guide vanes on the turbine.
