The BMW N13 is a gasoline engine series from the car manufacturer BMW with four cylinders in a row arrangement and turbocharging . The engine generation was presented in 2011. It celebrated its premiere in the BMW 116i / 118i as a replacement for the previously installed N43 direct-injection petrol engine and has gradually also been used in other model series. The basis of the N13 is the Prince engine , jointly developed by BMW and PSA Peugeot Citroën (also used in Mini ). One difference to the 1.6-l Prince engine used until then is that this engine has been modified so that it can be mounted lengthways. The N13 is a further step in BMW's Efficient Dynamics program. The engine shares a large part of its technology with the N20 , which has also already been presented , such as turbocharging known as BMW TwinPower Turbo , its HighPrecision Injection, Valvetronic and double VANOS . The two-part crankcase is made of die-cast aluminum.

In May 2012, the N13 was presented in a new expansion stage with 75 kW as an entry-level model for the BMW 114i , see web link from May 2012, and in the 100 kW variant in the BMW 316i . Both models have been available since September 2012.

The engine has been replaced by the B38 and B48 since summer 2016 .
