The art association derART e. V., based in Magdeburg at Große Diesdorfer Straße 249, promotes contemporary art with a focus on photography . DerART brings international artists to Magdeburg and organizes national and international exhibitions.

history

The art association derART e. V. was founded in 2001 in Magdeburg and is a member of the State Association for Cultural Children and Youth Education Saxony-Anhalt eV (LKJ). The premises of the association are in the building of the former Heinz Bormann clothing workshops , in which also the cultural microcosm has its home ground. Over the years, the ART had several hundred members and volunteers. Horea Conrad is co-founder, curator and current director of the art association derART.

Initially, the artistic focus was the organization of land art projects, later the focus shifted to photography. With this reorientation, the socio-cultural documentation gained in importance for the art association derART. Since the beginning, the ART has been promoting art stays in Magdeburg for foreign artists, who are given the opportunity to collect new impulses and establish contacts through an artistic and cultural exchange.

From the beginning, the art association derART endeavored to set signs for human coexistence through artistic actions. On June 28, 2002, the ART organized the hands-on performance color confession against xenophobia together with the city of Haldensleben . On September 18, 2012, the art association derART took part in the Landestag School without Racism - School with Courage organized by the State Center for Political Education with a workshop on the subject of "The sharp gaze of the camera, courage photography" . In 2013, the Magdeburger Kunstverein offered a workshop on the subject of "Art as a Social Task" as part of the state conference of the Democracy and Tolerance Network in Saxony-Anhalt . On the occasion of the International Roma Day on April 8, 2014, the art association derART, together with the Landesjugendwerk der AWO and the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, took part in the campaigns against antiziganism organized by Linksjugend solid throughout the state of Saxony-Anhalt .

Cooperation partner

The art association works closely with the city of Magdeburg's cultural office as well as with cultural authorities and national and international institutes. A main focus is on the cooperation with schools, and increasingly with universities, adult education centers, the student union , the Institut français and the French embassy . There are also collaborations with the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth with the State Chancellery Saxony-Anhalt , the State Center for Political Education, the State Administration Office Saxony-Anhalt , the foreign society , the Romanian cultural institute Titu Maiorescu , the AWO youth organization, the Central German Rundfunk (MDR), the Evangelical Church of Central Germany (EKM), the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung and the Linksjugend solid.

Exhibition locations

The exhibitions of the Kunstverein such were in New York , Berlin , Paris , Arles , Lodz , Hannover , Dessau , Schönebeck , Haldensleben , in Levantehaus in Hamburg , in the memorial German division Marienborn , in Castle Hundisburg and Castle Peseckendorf and in Poland in the City galleries of Ciechanów and Ostrołęka were shown, and a traveling exhibition was on view in Vienna for half a year in 2014 .

In Magdeburg, too, there were many other exhibition locations in addition to the club's own premises, including the town hall , the MDR Landesfunkhaus, the university library and the canteen gallery of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg , the Magdeburg University of Applied Sciences, the Magdeburg Central Medical Library, the Leibniz -Institute for Neurobiology , the adult education center, the city library, the gallery of the Hegel-Gymnasium , the cultural center Mikrokosmos , the women's center Courage in the Volksbad Buckau , the one- world house, the foyer of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the photo area 12hundred , the Moritzhof , the Johanniskirche and the cathedral to Magdeburg .

Artist

In addition to the works of its director and curator Horea Conrad, the art association derART has so far presented exhibitions of works by Willy Ronis , Yves Charnay and Evgen Bavcar to well-known artists . As part of the exhibition Somewhere in Europe , the art association derART showed Emir Kusturica's film Black Cat, White Cat .

Conception

The art association derART has set itself the guiding principle of seeing art as a social task. The Kunstverein's main focus is on the implementation of socio-cultural projects and documentations on the subject of groups of people in decisive or special phases of life, as well as, increasingly, art education for young people. DerART e. V. organizes various national and international exhibition and art projects as well as traveling and rental exhibitions . In addition to the courses, seminars, symposia , workshops and the bimonthly Magdeburg Photo Forum, the Kunstverein curates the annual exhibition “On the State of Things” .
