Peseckendorf Castle is a listed castle in the Peseckendorf district of the city of Oschersleben (Bode) in Saxony-Anhalt . The palace is also known as the Sanssouci der Börde .

history

In Peseckendorf, first mentioned in a document in 1086, the lords of Asseburg took over the fiefdom of the manor there, which had become vacant . The associated parish village of Peseckendorf lay desolate for some time from 1494 . In 1617 Busso von der Asseburg rebuilt the manor with strong ramparts and moats into a relatively safe renaissance castle, which was of good use to him in the Thirty Years' War . The castle was located on four hills, which can still be clearly seen in the castle park today. The building, which had been empty for many years, was completely demolished at the end of the 19th century.

From 1905 to 1912, the new manor owner Friedrich Schaeper had a new mansion built in the historicizing neo-baroque style by the well-known architect Paul Schultze-Naumburg between the old castle location and the village . The view of the park resembled Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam . On the courtyard side, above the access ramp, there was a pillar portal on which the stone sculptures “Four Seasons” were created by the sculptor Georg Kolbe in 1912. After 1945 these figures were removed as they would mock the working class. They were not destroyed, but are now in the Börde-Museum Burg Ummendorf .

In 1945 the owner family Schaeper was expropriated without compensation through the land reform and expelled from Peseckendorf. The castle building was now used as a training facility for the FDGB . From 1969 there was an auxiliary school home in the castle, which was closed in 1991. In 1991 the Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband Sachsen-Anhalt bought the palace and manor buildings and, after extensive renovation, set up a youth education center. Schloss Peseckendorf has been up for sale for a number of years, but so far no buyer has been found.

Castle complex

The palace complex includes a landscape park with ponds and a 25-meter-high building, initially used as a lookout tower, then as a water tower. Most of the farm buildings fell into disrepair after 1991 and had to be demolished.
