The M 133 is a four- cylinder in-line petrol engine from Mercedes-AMG , which has been available on the market as the A 45 AMG since June 2013 in the third generation of the A-Class (W 176) . The production is done by hand at MDC Power GmbH in Kölleda . With a displacement of 140 kW / l, it is the third most powerful series-produced four-cylinder engine that has so far been installed ex works in a car model approved for use on public roads (4B11T engine in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X : 150 kW / l and 161 kW / l).

technology

When M 133 is a four-cylinder - Series - petrol engine with a displacement of 1991 cc, the to BlueDirect belongs engine family. In the original variant, the output was 265 kW (360 hp) at 6000 / min (maximum speed: 6700 / min) and the torque 450 Nm at 2250 to 5000 / min. Since 2015, the output has been 280 kW (381 hp) at 6000 rpm and the maximum torque 475 Nm at 2250 to 5000 rpm.

At the best point, the engine achieves a specific fuel consumption of 234 g / kWh. The maximum effective mean pressure is over 28 bar.

Base engine

The engine is based on the front-transverse series unit M 270 , from which it adopts all the basic structural dimensions, such as bore (83 mm), stroke (92 mm) and the cylinder spacing (90 mm), as the greatest possible interlocking is to be achieved. In order to achieve the high specific power, the engine was adapted for higher ignition pressures of up to 150 bar. The compression ratio is 8.6: 1.

The crankcase of the M 133, which is manufactured using the chill casting process , has a closed-deck design and consists of the aluminum alloy AlSi7Mg. The cylinder head consists of the aluminum alloy AlSi10MgZr, in which an increase in the thermal conductivity was achieved by adding zirconium .

The gas exchange is controlled via four valves per cylinder and two overhead camshafts driven by a timing chain . A camshaft adjustment of 40 ° crank angle is possible for both the inlet and the outlet camshaft .

The crankshaft drive with a forged steel crankshaft (44MnSiVS6) with inductively hardened bearing surfaces, gray cast iron crankshaft bearing caps and forged pistons made from a racing alloy with piston rings optimized for friction performance also have a weight- optimizing function. The M 133 weighs kg according to DIN standard 147.8.

Air flow & charging

The entire air path from the air inlet to the inlet ducts in the cylinders is designed to be very short with a total length of less than 1.2 m in order to enable spontaneous response. The engine is equipped with a twin-scroll exhaust gas turbocharger , which means that the torque build -up takes place more quickly even at low engine speeds. The maximum boost pressure is 1.8 bar relative to atmospheric pressure. The charge air is cooled indirectly via a separate low-temperature cooling circuit, which means that the charge air temperature is a maximum of 25 K above the ambient temperature.

injection

As a member of the BlueDirect family of petrol engines, the M 133 has spray- guided direct injection with piezo injectors in all four combustion chambers. When the engine is at operating temperature, injections take place up to three times per work cycle (two pre-injections for better mixture preparation), while the engine is warming up up to five injections per work cycle to reduce particle emissions. The injector and spark plug position, the intake duct geometry and the entire combustion chamber roof configuration have been adopted from the basic M 270 engine.

Cooling system

The cooling system is largely based on that of the M 159 engine used in the SLS AMG sports car , but has been expanded to include a low-temperature circuit for air-water intercooling . There is also an additional cooler in the wheel arch. The water cooler is flowed through with the help of an electric pump and the intercooler connected in series. The cooling of the transmission oil is coupled to the high-temperature cooling circuit on the engine side, but the coolant taken from it is additionally cooled down by an additional cooler installed in front of the cooler package before it reaches the heat exchanger attached to the transmission.

The redesign of the cooling system means that water temperatures of below 110 ° C can be achieved over the entire map range and under all climatic conditions. Among other things, the delivery rate of the coolant pump was increased by 15%.

  7. The crankcases of the M 270 and M 274 differ fundamentally, as the M 274 is built "mirror-inverted" in many components due to the longitudinal installation. That concerns u. a. Crankshaft and cylinder head. The M 133 also differs in essential details from the similar M 270 (only in this case the crankcases of 1.6 and 2.0 are identical, but also differ there in essential details and therefore cannot be used arbitrarily!). The crankcases are not interchangeable!
