In the A-Class (W 177) it is offered as the A 45 4MATIC + (285 kW / 387 PS) and as the A 45 S 4MATIC + (310 kW / 421 PS). Like its predecessor M 133, the engine block is built in a closed deck design . As with its predecessor, the crankshaft is forged from steel. The engine uses combined direct and manifold injection, the latter being the second stage, and a turbocharger with two flow channels, which is also cooled with water and oil. Its boost pressure is 2.1 bar. A roller bearing was chosen for low friction . The motor is water-cooled by an electric pump that works independently of the motor speed.

With a displacement of 155 kW / l, it will be the most powerful series-produced four-cylinder engine that has been installed ex works in a car model approved for public traffic.
