As the first Range Rover, the Evoque is not only available as an all-wheel drive variant, but also as a front-wheel drive variant, which is designed for reduced fuel consumption. The vehicle has a significantly higher premium than the Land Rover Discovery Sport (successor to the Land Rover Freelander ).

The Evoque is available as a five-door as well as a three-door ( called Coupé ) with a lower roof and, from model year 2016, a slightly lower purchase price. In April 2016, the manufacturer launched a convertible version that starts at 51,200 euros. A convertible version is nothing unusual for Land Rover: Even the very first Land Rover (known today as Defender ) from 1948 was a convertible.

The 177 kW (240 hp) petrol engine is produced by Ford , while the diesel engines are supplied by PSA Peugeot Citroën . All wheels are individually suspended on MacPherson struts and wishbones .

Facelift

At the Geneva Motor Show 2015 Jaguar Land Rover presented the revised Range Rover Evoque ( model year 2016), which was available from August 2015.

The outside of the car was modified, for example with new bumpers , headlights and a new radiator grille . The engines became lighter and more economical. The Ingenium diesel engine with 110 kW (150 PS) or 132 kW (180 PS) depending on the version weighs around 20 to 30 kilograms less than its predecessor, according to the manufacturer. In addition, according to the manufacturer, particularly low-friction engines reduce fuel consumption by 18 percent to a standard consumption of 4.2 liters and 4.8 liters per 100 kilometers. According to Jaguar Land Rover, the most economical version of the TD4 with front-wheel drive consumes 4.1 liters per 100 kilometers. The most powerful variant is a new Si4 petrol engine with 213 kW (290 PS).

Technical details

Land Rover uses Active Driveline Technology. This is a clutch-controlled all-wheel drive. Torque vectoring, i.e. torque distribution , is also used.

Infotainment and packages

Infotainment system

The InControl infotainment system with an 8-inch (203 mm) touchscreen is installed as standard in the Range Rover Evoque , and is optionally available with a 10.2-inch touchscreen. Smartphones can be seamlessly integrated, and smartphone apps adapted to the vehicle can transfer data from the phone directly to the display in the dashboard and control it. The autonomous emergency brake assistant , which continuously monitors the distance to the vehicle in front, is also standard . If the distance is too short, the system warns the driver by means of optical and acoustic signals and, if there is no reaction, automatically initiates emergency braking .

Equipment lines and packages

The Range Rover Evoque is available in the basic version "Pure" and the other higher-quality equipment lines "Dynamic" and "Prestige". In September 2014 the trim levels "Autobiography" and "Autobiography Dynamic" will follow. In both cases, the vehicle rolls on 20-inch alloy wheels and is fitted with leather seats as standard. The Autobiography Dynamic also features a more powerful version of the 2.0-liter turbo engine with 285 hp (209 kW).

In addition to the equipment lines, equipment packages are available that combine several options at a lower price. The Pure technology package, the Dynamic and Prestige technology package, the Dynamic Plus package, a winter package and a vision package are available.

Special models

"Victoria Beckham Edition"

In 2012, the Range Rover Evoque Victoria Beckham Edition special model was presented, which Victoria Beckham helped design . Originally 200 units were planned to be produced worldwide, but only about 80 were actually built. 20 units were planned for the German market, but it is not known how many were delivered. The basis of the vehicle is a fully equipped Range Rover Evoque Coupé Si4 Dynamic with the 240 hp (176 kW) 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine, with Victoria Beckham choosing the colors and materials. The recommended retail price for the car, which is manufactured in limited numbers and largely by hand, was € 103,990 in Germany.

"Yellow Edition"

On January 10, 2013 the special model Range Rover Evoque Yellow Edition was presented at the Brussels Motor Show. The vehicle could be ordered in Germany from the end of March 2013 and was delivered in the summer. This version was limited to 80 pieces for the German market. It was characterized by a special paint finish in Sicilian Yellow and a metallic black painted roof; this color combination could also be turned around on request (black metallic with yellow roof). In addition to the striking exterior paintwork, there were also various yellow details in the interior (e.g. the seat seams and a decorative strip on the dashboard ).

"Silk Road"

A special model of the Range Rover Evoque was launched for the Land Rover Experience Tour Silk Road 2013 . The Land Rover team had organized, planned and prepared an off-road adventure tour over 15,000 km, through 11 countries and 5 cultures from Germany to Mumbai along the Silk Road . While around 22,000 people from Germany applied for the 12 places for the tour as early as 2012 and had to survive some qualification and selection rounds with various off-road activities, the special model could be purchased, which was limited to 50 pieces from the end of June 2013 at Dealer was available. The basis was a Range Rover Evoque SD4 Pure in the Fuji White paintwork, which was provided with a number of specific stickers ex works. Standard features included a roof rack, fire extinguisher and a six-speed automatic transmission on board. The list price started at € 53,900.

"Landmark"

On the occasion of the 600,000th Evoque, the special model Landmark, available from € 52,200 , was presented to the public at the Royal Windsor Horse Show , the royal horse show at Windsor Castle, in May 2017 . In addition to the new exterior color Moraine Blue , the special model , which is only available as a 5-door and with the contrasting roof color Carpathian Gray , can be ordered in the colors Yulong White or Corris Gray . It is equipped with gray 19-inch wheels, gray exterior decorative elements and a panoramic roof, and the interior has various visual enhancements compared to the series.

The technology of the all-wheel drive depends on the engine.

  • All diesel variants work with a Haldex clutch , which distributes the torque between the front and rear axles as required.
  • A system called Active Driveline is used with the two-liter gasoline engine and optionally with the two-liter diesel engine, which can disable the rear-wheel drive to reduce fuel consumption and distribute the torque individually between the two wheels of the rear axle via friction plate clutches.

The second generation of the Evoque was presented as a five-door model in London on November 22nd, 2018 . The first vehicles have been delivered since April 2019. The dimensions change only slightly compared to the previous model. It is still unknown whether a three-door or a convertible will be offered, as was the case with the first generation.

Technical specifications

The drive range of the second generation is identical to that of the Jaguar E-Pace . All variants with all-wheel drive are designed as mild hybrids with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery housed in the underbody . In April 2020, a version with a plug-in hybrid drive was also presented.

Sales and costs

In November 2014, the independent data service provider Schwacke recognized the Pure version of the Range Rover Evoque eD4 as the most stable model in 2014. As a result, after three years and a typical mileage of 45,000 kilometers, it still had a residual value of 69.6 percent. According to Schwacke, the Evoque eD4 was somewhat more stable in value than the BMW X3 xDrive35d (69.3%), the AUDI Q3 2.0 TDI (68.5%) and the KIA Sportage 1.6 GDI 2WD (68.4% residual value).

Registration numbers

Since the market launch up to and including December 2019, a total of 46,487 Range Rover Evoque have been newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2017, the convertible accounted for around 19 percent, in 2018 it was around eleven percent and in 2019 around seven percent.

Controversy with Jiangling Motors

The Chinese automobile manufacturer Jiangling Motors attracted worldwide attention because its Landwind X7 looks very similar to the Evoque. The X7 costs only a third of what the Evoque costs. The X7 was unveiled in October 2014 shortly after a Tata Motors plant , the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover , opened in Changshu . This plant produces the Evoque and Discovery Sport for the Chinese market. Like the X7, the Chinese version of the Evoque was presented at the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show .

Jaguar Land Rover's initial response to the X7 came during the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show, when Jaguar- working designer Ian Callum tweeted images of the X7, pointing out the similarity between the X7 and Evoque. The company announced that it will investigate whether Jiangling Motors' Evoque design has been copied and whether steps are being taken to protect its intellectual property. Jaguar Land Rover went to court; the complaints were dismissed in early 2015.

Both Jaguar Land Rover and Jiangling Motors had filed patents for the design of their respective models , but both were canceled in 2016 . The patent for the exterior design of the Evoque was invalidated by China's intellectual property regulator in April 2016, as the car was revealed before the patent was filed in November 2011. The cancellation was made at the request of Jiangling Motors. The patent of the X7 was canceled on May 16, 2016 at the request of Jaguar Land Rover because the design was too similar to that of the Evoque.

In June 2016, Jaguar took Land Rover to court in Beijing to hold Jiangling Motors responsible for copyright infringement and unfair competition .
