Land Rover Perentie

The Land Rover Perentie is a vehicle of the Australian Army that is built in Australia on the basis of the Land Rover Defender 110. The model was introduced in 1987, replacing the older Land Rover Series IIA and Series III and is still in service.

Order and use

The first order of the Australian Army comprised 2500 4 × 4 and 400 6 × 6 in the years 1987 to 1990. Other vehicles were added later under the Bushranger project .

The vehicle has proven itself both in Australia and in military missions overseas.

Technical specifications

The cars are as 4 x 4 or 6 x 6 model available and are of a four cylinder - diesel engine from Isuzu driven with 3.9 liters.

The main changes compared to the British Land Rover models are the spare wheel under the bed at the rear, a galvanized chassis and the Isuzu engine, which was also used in the 1980s in the civilian versions with long wheelbase of the series II, IIA, III and Defender was installed. The 6 × 6 version has a wider cab and a leaf-sprung rear axle.

Surname

The name Perentie is derived from Project Perentie , an official attempt by the Australian Army to find new one-ton and two-ton vehicles. "Perentie" is the English name for the giant monitor living in Australia .
