Previous model | Land Rover Defender |
The Land Rover Defender (L663) is an off-road vehicle produced by the British car manufacturer Land Rover . It is the successor to the Land Rover Defender , which was built until 2016 .
Model history
After production of the Defender ended at the end of January 2016, no successor model was presented until 2019. As early as 2011, however, Land Rover showed what a new Defender could look like with the Land Rover Defender Concept 100 concept vehicle .
On September 10, 2019, the manufacturer finally presented the new Defender at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main . Since then, the Defender has been available as a five-door 110 . The off-road vehicle is also available as a limited special First Edition model. The Defender is to come to dealerships in spring 2020. The shorter three-door Defender 90 , the longer five-door Defender 130 and a commercial version are to follow in the course of 2020.
The Defender is no longer produced in Solihull , UK , but in Nitra, Slovakia .
body
Compared to the previous model, the Defender L663 is over 20 cm wider. Due to the height of almost two meters, Land Rover offers a side-mounted ladder as an accessory to better reach the roof, for example for mounting a roof rack. In addition, a snorkel for crossing water, a cable winch and a side-mounted additional case are available. Again, the Defender has a fully-fledged spare wheel that is attached to the tailgate that opens to the side. As a reminiscence of the previous model, numerous screws can be seen on the new Defender, with which, for example, the door panels are attached.
The 110 , available at the market launch, is just over five meters long and has five, six or seven seats. The six-seater has a third seat between the driver and front passenger. The seven-seater is not available with the center seat that Land Rover calls the “ jump seat ”. Instead, it has a third row of seats. The 4.58 m long 90 has five or six seats.
Technical specifications
The Defender L663 has independent suspension on all wheels . Land Rover gives the ground clearance with 291 mm, the maximum fording depth with 90 cm. The approach angle at the front is 38 degrees, the rear 40 degrees. With the 90 the tilt angle is 31 degrees, with the 110 28 degrees. In North America the maximum towable weight of the Defender is 3720 kg, in Europe it is 3500 kg.
The drive range includes two gasoline engines and two diesel engines at the market launch . All Defenders have all-wheel drive and an 8- speed automatic transmission from ZF . A variant with a plug-in hybrid drive is to be offered later. A gasoline particulate filter is used for exhaust aftertreatment in gasoline engines and an SCR catalytic converter in diesel engines .
