The Range Rover Sport is an SUV that has been available since of 2005. The first generation was based on the Land Rover Discovery platform , but for marketing reasons it was sold under the more image-bearing name Range Rover , which aimed to appeal to a different, younger group of buyers. The introduction started in February 2005.
The second generation, no longer based on the Land Rover Discovery but based on the new Range Rover, even if 75% of the parts are different, was presented on March 26, 2013 in New York City . Market launch in Europe was on September 20, 2013.

Like the Discovery, the Range Rover Sport is equipped with the Terrain Response System , which adapts the all-wheel drive to different surfaces using a rotary switch; the air suspension is always standard on the Range Rover Sport.
The designation "Sport" is intended - with a similar engine to that of the large Range Rover - to illustrate the more dynamic driving behavior, which is made possible not least by smaller dimensions and lower weight.
In the summer of 2010 a facelift was carried out on the Range Rover Sport. Headlights and rear lights were changed, which also resulted in modified sills.
In July 2011 the TDV6 engine was revised, which makes 211 hp here. It was also equipped with a new eight-speed automatic transmission that consumes less fuel. As a supplement to the engine range, the SDV6 with 256 hp was added, which is located between the most powerful TDV6 and the TDV8 and replaces both engines.

The second generation appeared across Europe on September 20, 2013. It is characterized by a significant weight reduction, which is achieved by a body made entirely of aluminum. Technically, the model is based on the fourth generation of Range Rover. Many components such as the chassis, on-board electronics, transmission and suspension were taken over. The series will receive a revision for the 2018 model year.
Record time on Pikes Peak
On June 6, 2013, Paul Dallenbach set a new record with the Range Rover Sport 5.0 Supercharged for series SUVs on the official race track of the famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb . Except for an additional roll cage, the vehicle was in its original condition. With a loss of performance of up to 40%, which is caused by the thin air at the corresponding height, Dallenbach needed 12 minutes 36 seconds and 61 hundredths.
Equipment lines
The vehicle is available in various equipment lines, all of which differ in terms of various standard extras and are based on one another: S / SE; HSE; HSE Dynamic and Autobiography Dynamic.
Terrain characteristics
Compared to its predecessor, the terrain skills have been improved. The Range Rover Sport from model year 2014 has a maximum fording depth of 850 mm. New on-board systems such as “Wade Sensing”, which can measure the water depth around the vehicle using radar sensors in the exterior mirrors, enable safe travel on unknown routes.
Drives
For the first time with the Range Rover Sport, the manufacturer has decided to offer two different drive variants for different requirements. Basically, the vehicle is always equipped with all-wheel drive. However, in addition to the already known system with reduction gear and differential lock, there is a less complex and 18 kg lighter, but not as powerful, version with a Torsen differential as standard equipment. This is designed for operation on paved roads and offers enough traction for everyday use. The version with the familiar system is particularly recommended for off-road driving and towing with a trailer.
