Oleg Nikolajewitsch Krochin ( Russian Олег Николаевич Крохин ; born March 14, 1932 in Moscow ) is a Russian physicist .

Life

Krochin studied at the Physics - Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1955. Then, with graduation, he worked in the nuclear research center of the Middle maschinenbau Ministry of USSR in Chelyabinsk-50 .

In 1959, Krochin moved to the Moscow Lebedev Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences (AN-SSSR) (FIAN). Under the direction of Nikolai Basov , Krochin took part in studies of the functioning of measles , which led to the development of lasers . In doing so, he discovered the functional principle of the semiconductor injection laser (1961). During this work he examined the relaxation phenomena of a degenerate electron gas in semiconductors and their optical properties in the event of strong deviations from equilibrium . With others he investigated the use of lasers for inertial fusion (1962), for which particularly powerful power lasers were developed. With his laboratory for laser targets , he gained a globally recognized position. He was also one of the pioneers of laser use in medicine and X-ray lithography . In 1972 Krochin became FIAN's vice director.

In 1991 Krochin became a Corresponding Member of the now Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN) and in 2000 a real member.

In 1994, Krochin became director of FIAN and managed it until he became a consultant to RAN in 2004. Krochin is the chief editor of the Journal of Russian Laser Research and other journals.
