Vladimir Yevgenyevich Sokolov

Vladimir Evgenjewitsch Sokolow ( Russian Владимир Евгеньевич Соколов ; born  February 1, 1928 in Moscow ; †  April 19, 1998 ibid) was a Russian biologist ( zoologist ) and a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

He was director of the Institute of Animal Developmental Morphology and Ecology of the Soviet Academy of Sciences and Professor of Zoology at Moscow State University. He was a member of the Presidium of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. As a representative of the USSR, he was a member of the World Commission on Environment and Development (UN) chaired by Gro Harlem Brundtland , which published the Brundtland Report . In 1990 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
