Vladimir Petrovich Skulachev

Vladimir Petrovich Skulachev ( Russian Владимир Петрович Скулачёв ; born February 21, 1935 in Moscow ) is a Russian biochemist and university professor .

Life

Skulachev studied at the Faculty of Biology and Soil Science of the Lomonosov University in Moscow , graduating in 1957. He worked there since 1960. From 1965 he headed the Department of Bioenergetics of the Interfaculty Laboratory for Bioorganic Chemistry , of which he became head in 1973. In 1969 he received his doctorate in biological sciences . In 1974 he was elected as a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR) .

In 1990 Skulachev became a real member of the AN-SSSR. In 1991 the Interfaculty Laboratory for Bioorganic Chemistry became the Belosersky Institute for Physico-Chemical Biology with Skulachev as director. In 1996 Skulachev held the LII. Mendeleev lecture on polyfunctional materials for molecular electronics . In 2002 Skulachev founded the Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics at Lomonossow University , of which he has been dean since then. In 2003 he became professor at the chair for bioengineering.

Skulachev is a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Academia Europaea . He is the president of the Club of Russian Members of Academia Europaea, the All-Russian Biochemical Society and the Bioenergetics Organization of Russia . 2005 awarded him Vilnius University , the honorary doctorate . He is the main editor of Biochimija and co-editor of Biofisika and Molecular Biologija .

The focus of Skulachev's scientific work is on the mechanisms of biological oxidation , oxidative phosphorylation and the conversion of chemical energy into electrical energy on the membranes of mitochondria . Since 2005 he has been leading a project to develop an anti-aging preparation based on mitochondrial antioxidants .

In 2017 Skulachev was one of the winners of the Demidow Prize . In the same year he entered the Social Chamber of the Russian Federation .

Skulachev is married and has two children Tatjana (* 1964, philologist ) and Maxim (* 1973, molecular biologist ).
