volcanology
Volcanology is the science that deals with the systematic research of volcanoes or the phenomena of volcanism . It is a sub-discipline of geology . One of their main goals is the prediction of volcanic eruptions , mostly this is done in state volcanic observatories .
Areas
- Experimental volcanology , which has been established as a new research direction since the 1970s (Bayreuth, Hanover, Tübingen, Kiel, Munich), in particular to research hazard potentials.
- Physical or physical volcanology , which deals with the basic physical processes of volcanism, see also physical geography and geophysics
