The Galenstock is the fourth highest mountain in the Uri Alps . He is 3586 m above sea level. M. high and lies on the border of the Swiss cantons of Uri and Wallis .
Geographical location
The Galenstock is located in the southern Urner Alps, north of the Furkapassstrasse , to the west it is surrounded by the Rhone Glacier , to the southeast by the Sidelen Glacier and to the northeast by the Tiefen Glacier . To the north lies the chain Tiefenstock - Rhonestock - Dammastock . The Galengrat leads south from the summit over the 3113 m above sea level. M. high Galensattel to the Sidelenhorn . To the south-west lies the Gross Bielenhorn, separated by the Obere Bielenlücke ( 3248 m above sea level ) .

Routes
The easiest route leads from the Hotel Belvédère over the Rhone Glacier and the western flank to the Galensattel and from there over firn, later in the year ice, to the summit.
The normal route from the east leads over the Albert-Heim-Hütte ( 2543 m above sea level ), over the Tiefengletscher to the north ridge and over this with easy climbing ( II. Degree ) to the summit.
Both routes can also be used as ski tours in winter.
A high-altitude tour of difficulty II-III leads over the southeast spur from the Sidelenütte ( 2708 m above sea level ), accessible from the Furkapass . The southeast ridge begins from the upper Bielenlücke and offers a climbing route in the upper IV level of difficulty.
A climbing route in the upper V level of difficulty leads through the Galengrat splice. The starting point is the Sidelen Hut . Most of the time, however, you don't climb all the way to the summit, but rappel down again over the intersection.
First ascent
The Galenstock was first climbed on August 18, 1845 by Eduard Desor , Daniel Dollfuss and his son of the same name, led by local mountain guides H. Warus, M. Bannholzer, P. Brigger and H. Jaun.
