Rorbas is the lowest municipality in the Töss valley and is located directly in front of the confluence of the Töss into the Rhine (Tössegg), embedded between the Dattenberg and the Irchel .

Surname

Rorbas was called Rorboz or Rorboss in earlier times .

The part Ror is derived from reed (" reed "), while boz (biuzu) means "to beat" or "to push". In its composition, Rorbas indicates an area where reeds were previously cut.

Rorbas who have not moved here call their village Rorbis in their dialect .

On Carnival Sunday in 1538, 30 houses were destroyed in a conflagration.

At the end of 2012, 2503 people lived in Rorbas, many of whom work away from home.

Churches

On December 31, 2011, 41.6% of the population belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church and 24.5% to the Roman Catholic Church .

The Evangelical Reformed Church and the Chrischona congregation are linked in the Rorbas-Freienstein section of the Evangelical Alliance .

Administration and politics

In many areas, Rorbas organizes itself with the neighboring community of Freienstein-Teufen , for example with the school and church community, and the post office only operates a single post office for the closely-knit villages of Rorbas and Freienstein.

Hans Ulrich Büchi has been mayor (independent) since 2006 (as of December 2017).
