This coat of arms - it occurs in many variants in the Zürcher Unterland - could not be called the actual municipal coat of arms. It merely indicated that they belonged to the former new office .

In its current form, the Hochfeld coat of arms was officially recognized by the local council on March 19, 1931. It was the shield of Meyer von Hochfelden which is first handed down in a seal from 1360.

history

In 886, Hochfelden was first mentioned as Hofelda in a deed of donation to the Aadorf church . The main settlement Hochfelden got its name because of a raised arable land.

Political Affiliation

Fig. 2: Hochfelden in the Siegfried Atlas from 1880

In the 13th century, the Cistercian monastery Wettingen acquired land and mills in Hochfelden. As part of the Habsburg county of Kyburg , Hochfelden came to Zurich in 1424. When in 1442 the areas to the left of the Glatt were separated from the county, Hochfelden came to the Obervogtei Neuamt , which existed until 1798. After the French invaded in 1798, Hochfelden belonged to the Bülach district until 1813 and then to the much smaller Bülach district to this day . In 1847 a fire destroyed parts of the village.

Church conditions

Hochfelden belonged to the parish of Bülach. There was a chapel in the village in the 14th century. In modern times, only the chapel property, whose invoices have been preserved since the 17th century, testifies to this. In 1748 this fund, which functioned as a kind of village bank, paid over the considerable fortune of around 28,000 pounds, i.e. H. the equivalent of several large farms. This money was mainly loaned to people in the community and the surrounding area. From the interest income, for example, salaries were paid for the midwife and the schoolmaster. In addition, poor community residents could also be supported.

Cotton industry

Around 1790 more than a quarter of the population was still employed in the cotton mill. Several companies such as the Hochfelden spinning mill or the Hochfelden cotton twisting mill (1868–1962) settled on the Glattlauf.

Smooth correction

In order to master the floods of the Glatt, the river bed was shifted 100 m to the east during the Glatt correction (1975–1981). As a result, the village center underwent a profound transformation. A village pond was created so that the historically river-based façades remained related to the water. At the same time, a near-natural river landscape (approx. 8 hectares of protected area) was artificially created north of Hochfelden.
