Obervogtei Neuamt
The Obervogtei Neuamt is a former administrative unit of the city state of Zurich in the Old Confederation .
It was located in today's Zürcher Unterland and stretched west (left) of the Glatt river in a width of three to ten kilometers from Oberglatt to the confluence with the Rhine . The Neuamt was an arable area in which closed settlement with villages and hamlets had prevailed since the late Middle Ages.
The new office was created in 1442 in the run-up to the Old Zurich War , when the Zurich residents returned the county of Kyburg , which had been pledged in 1424, to the Habsburgs . They kept the areas to the left of the Glatt and named the area Neuamt .
From 1442 to 1798, when the French invasion swept away the old order, the Neuamt included the following places (from north to south):
- Weiach
- Raat (now part of the municipality of Stadel near Niederglatt)
- Windlach (now part of the municipality of Stadel near Niederglatt)
- Schüpfheim (today part of the municipality of Stadel near Niederglatt)
- Barn
- Neerach
- Riedt (now part of the Neerach community)
- Hochfelden
- Niederhöri (municipality of Höri )
- Oberhöri (municipality of Höri)
- Nöschikon (Niederglatt municipality)
- Niederglatt (only areas west of the Glatt; the area east of the Glatt is still called "Grafschaft" today)
- Hofstetten
- Oberglatt (only areas west of the Glatt; the area east of the Glatt is still called "Grafschaft" today)
- Oberhasli (Niederhasli municipality)
- Mettmenhasli (Niederhasli municipality)
- Niederhasli
- Nassenwil (Niederhasli municipality)
- Adlikon (municipality of Regensdorf ).
- Endhöri (actually: Ennethöri; municipality of Höri), lies on the eastern side of the Glatt and was only assigned to the Neuamt in 1667/89
There were only a few independent farms: the “Ditikerhof” (south of Dielsdorf ), “Schachen” (south of Glattfelden ) and several farms “im Thal” (northwest of Bachs ).
Characteristic for the coat of arms of the Neuamt was a floating crescent moon, which is why the residents of the office were sometimes called "Turks". The crescent moon as a reminiscence is still included in the municipal coats of arms of Niederglatt, Neerach and Stadel.
The Obervogtei was administered in rotation by two Obervögte living in Zurich. Disputes were brought before the court of the new office in Niederglatt, later before the two chief bailiffs in the city of Zurich.
