Stadel [ ˈʃtaːdəl ] (in the local dialect: [ ˈʃtadəl ]) is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland . To distinguish it from other localities with the same name , the addition at Niederglatt was previously added.

Windlach , Raat and Schüpfheim have also been part of Stadel since 1907 . The civil parish of Windlach was dissolved on January 1, 2010.

geography

The municipality of Stadel is located in the Zürcher Unterland on the edge of a plain that was created by the foothills of the great Alpine glaciers during the Ice Age and which was previously swampy. The Neeracher Ried is a remnant of this lake landscape. 58.8% of the municipal area is used for agriculture, 30.4% is covered with forest, 3.2% is traffic area and 7.1% is settlement area, 0.2% is water.

Art and culture

The Leuenbrunnen is an octagonal late Renaissance fountain from 1636. The richly decorated column contains lion masks, coats of arms and a seated lion holding a shield.

Stadel is a local center that houses the secondary school for the neighboring communities of Bachs , Neerach and Weiach .

Surname

Stadel is first mentioned in a document in 1173; an older stadala document from 1044 cannot be reliably assigned. The name goes back to ahd. Stadal , mhd. Stadel 'stall, barn' (or for the document from 1044 on its plural form ).
