Oberweningen is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .

There are no records of the origin of the coat of arms, it was first proven in 1860. It is assumed that the coat of arms of the Knights of Mandach, who owned land in Oberweningen, was taken over, or that it was a "speaking" coat of arms created by the local Moor family . The community assembly determined the motif on November 18, 1928 for the official municipal coat of arms.

Oberweningen is located in the Wehntal in the Zurich Unterland . The municipality borders on Schleinikon , Schöfflisdorf , Boppelsen , Bachs , Regensberg , Steinmaur and Siglistorf AG . 35.4% of the municipal area is used for agriculture, 55.6% and 9% of the forest cover settlement and traffic.

The community also includes the Wattwil outdoor watch, which can be accessed by a road from Siglistorf .

history

Around 1800 BC Chr .: The first inhabitants probably lived in the area of ​​Oberweningen at the end of the Stone Age . In the forest on the Egg were grave mounds found. In the grave goods were corded ceramic pots . In Roman times there was a manor here .

6th century: The name ending in -ingen indicates a settlement founded by the Alamanni towards the end of the migration . The leader is likely to have been called Wano and probably founded Niederweningen first . A second settlement was then called Oberweningen.

1291 First documentary mention of Oberweningen on May 25th in a parchment letter from the Barons of Regensberg . The letter seals the sale of a farm to the monastery of St. Blasien . The parchment letter is still kept in the Swiss National Museum today .

In 1409 Oberweningen and the rest of the Wehntal came under the rule of the city of Zurich .

In 1524 the population of that time converted to the Reformed faith like the other Zürcher Unterländer .

1554 Opening of the first restaurant in Chlupf.

1798 In the spring, in connection with the coalition wars, the Napoleonic troops marched in . During the Second Battle of Zurich there were also larger troop marches in Wehntal. The chaos of war followed until 1802.

In 1843 the road to Zurich was expanded. At the suggestion of the pastor of Schöfflisdorf , the road was not built from Sünikon along the Lägern to Schleinikon as originally planned , but through Schöfflisdorf and Oberweningen to Niederweningen . A year earlier, the first stagecoach drove through Oberweningen on the Zurich – Dielsdorf – Niederweningen route. A post office was set up in the restaurant in Chlupf.

In 1891 the railway line from Dielsdorf to Niederweningen was opened.

1895 first telephone in the Chlupf restaurant.

1990 Opening of the Zurich S-Bahn . In the years that followed, the population grew rapidly. Several quarters with single and multi-family houses are being built. The influence of the city of Zurich has become noticeably stronger.

Oberweningen is on the Wehntalbahn (Oberglatt – Niederweningen), which is served by the S 15 Rapperswil - Uster - Zurich HB - Oberglatt - Niederweningen . The S 15 trains run every half hour. The station is located in the municipality of Schöfflisdorf and bears the double name Schöfflisdorf-Oberweningen .

At the station Schöfflisdorf-Oberweningen starting post bus -Buslinie 555 ( Schöfflisdorf-Oberweningen -Oberweningen- Schleinikon ) and operated the stops Hüeblistrasse , Rossstall and Kronenweg in Oberweningen and opens the neighboring community Schleinikon.

The main road 17 from Zurich to Döttingen leads through Oberweningen and is called Wehntalerstrasse in the municipality.
