The Wehntal lies between the Lägern and the Egg in the Dielsdorf district of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. In the east, the valley is closed by an old terminal moraine from the Linth glacier , which forms a valley watershed between the Surb and the Glatt . In the west, the Wehntal ends at the border with the canton of Aargau , where it is continued by the Surbtal . The municipalities of Schöfflisdorf , Oberweningen , Schleinikon and Niederweningen are located in the Wehntal . The municipalities of Steinmaur and Dielsdorf are located on the Wehntal Railway , but are not part of the actual Wehntal. The valley slopes towards the west and is drained by the Surb.

The Lägern is the easternmost foothills of the Folded Jura, the Egg is a gravel terrace that was created in the early Pleistocene by medium moraine material . The most important mammoth finds in Switzerland were made in the municipality of Niederweningen in the 19th and 20th centuries and are exhibited in the Mammoth Museum.
