Schöfflisdorf (Zurich German: Schöfflisdorf or older Schöfflischtòòrf ) is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .

The coat of arms is from the Helvetic era . The sheep indicates a corruption of the place name: the Schööfli from the Zurich-German Schöfflisdorf is a diminutive of sheep . The name Schöfflisdorf comes from the fact that the village used to be the seat of a court lay judge ( jury ).

Schöfflisdorf is the easternmost municipality in the Wehntal , about 20 kilometers northwest of Zurich . The municipality borders on Bachs , Oberweningen , Steinmaur and Boppelsen . 35.4% of the municipal area is used for agriculture, forests cover 55.6% and 9% for settlement and transport, 0.2% are bodies of water.

history
Around 1800 BC Chr .: The first inhabitants probably lived in the area of Oberweningen at the end of the Stone Age . In the forest on the Egg were grave mounds found. In the grave goods were corded ceramic pots . In Roman times there was a manor here .
9th century: The name ending in -dorf indicates a settlement founded by the Alamanni . In 1285 Schöfflisdorf was first mentioned in a parchment letter from Baron Lütold VIII von Regensberg , where the sale of a property to a Berchtold von Waldhausen in the Bachsertal was confirmed. The parchment letter is still kept in the Zurich State Archives.
13th century: First chapel built in Schöfflisdorf, which at that time still belonged to the Niederweningen parish . In 1409 Schöfflisdorf and the rest of the Wehntal came under the rule of the city of Zurich. In 1524 the population of that time converted to the Reformed faith like the other Zürcher Unterländer . The current spelling of the name was first mentioned in 1548. Today's church was built in 1706, followed by the rectory in 1713.
In the spring of 1798 the Napoleonic troops marched in in connection with the coalition wars . During the Second Battle of Zurich there were also larger troop marches in Wehntal. The chaos of war followed until 1802.
In 1843 the road to Zurich was expanded. At the suggestion of the village pastor, the road was not built along the warehouses as originally planned, but led with a sharp curve towards the village. The curve was named Pfaffenrank . A year earlier, the first stagecoach drove through Schöfflisdorf on the Zurich – Dielsdorf – Niederweningen route.
In 1891 the railway line from Dielsdorf to Niederweningen was opened. In 1973 the restricted level crossing in the 'Pfaffenrank' was lifted and replaced by an overpass. In the same year the multi-purpose hall was opened. 1990 Opening of the Zurich S-Bahn . In the years that followed, the population grew rapidly. Several quarters with single and multi-family houses were built. The influence of the city of Zurich became noticeably stronger.

Schöfflisdorf is located on the Wehntalbahn (Oberglatt – Niederweningen), which is served by the S 15 Rapperswil - Uster - Zurich HB - Oberglatt - Niederweningen . The S 15 trains run every half hour. At the station Schöfflisdorf-Oberweningen starting post bus -Buslinie 555 to Oberweningen- Schleinikon .
The main road 17 from Zurich to Döttingen leads through Schöfflisdorf.
