The Rapperswil station of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is a rail hub in Rapperswil in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen . It is located in the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona , directly adjacent to the lake.

history

The station was built in 1895 by the architect Karl August Hiller .

At the end of the 1980s, the SBB wanted to replace the old station building with a new one, but the project was neglected for various reasons and it was not until 2001 that the plans were brought out again and revised. As a result, the Swiss Homeland Security was able to convince in several discussions that the station should be preserved, and a renovation project was worked out. Between March 2007 and August 2008 the station was renovated.

A budget of CHF 94 million has been budgeted for the renovation of the track system between 2013 and 2016.

Track systems

The track systems of the SBB consist of seven tracks on platforms and some sidings. Track 1 is right next to the station building. As a rule, the S7 runs there. The Voralpen-Express (InterRegio) and the regional train to Linthal GL use tracks 2 and 5. The trains of the Zurich S-Bahn run on tracks 3 and 4 . The tracks 6 and 7 are of the S40, the SOB used.
