The village of Wagen is a village in the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland .

geography

The rural village in the area of ​​the former municipality of Jona is located in the east of the municipality and borders Eschenbach to the east . The village is nestled between two ranges of hills, the Curtiberg in the north and a long, densely wooded elevation that separates Wagen from Bollingen and the Obersee . The village of Wagen includes more recent settlements built on a mountain slope in the Curtiberg area.

The village is partially surrounded by forest and the landscape is characterized by meadows. The area is drained by the Wagnerbach, which flows northeast of the Wurmsbach monastery into the Obersee.

history

Wagen was first mentioned in a document in 870. The area of ​​Jonah was already settled by the Celts and later by the Romans . Numerous archaeological finds bear witness to this, including the Roman Salet estate .

There has been no grocery store in Wagen since September 2017. There is a restaurant and a primary school with a kindergarten. Until the end of May 2005 there was an independent post office in Wagen, which has since been operated as an agency in a local shop; in the village shop until autumn 2017, since then at the florist.

Public transport

The LinthBus runs every half hour (there are additional services during rush hour) by car to the Jonas and Rapperswils centers and to Eschenbach . The city bus from Rapperswil-Jona does not serve cars.

Car is not on any railway line.

St. Wendelin Chapel

Church services are held every weekend in the St. Wendelin Chapel . The church is maintained by the Catholic parish of Rapperswil-Jona and was last restored in the summer of 1998.
