Public transport
Bollingen is on the Rapperswil-Uznach railway line ; the station was closed in 2004. The former train station is located between the village of Bollingen and the Wurmsbach monastery , as sandstone used to be mined in Bollingen and the quarry is outside the center of the village. It was the crossing point between Schmerikon and the SOB terminus Rapperswil.
Bollingen is therefore only connected to public transport on school days by the Bollinger school bus.
Industry
In the area of Bollingen there are former sandstone quarries from which stones were extracted for the National Museum in Zurich . Bollinger sandstone was mined there for almost 1000 years . Today the former stone pits are hardly recognizable as they are partly overgrown with bushes and trees.
Attractions
St. Pankraz Church
The church of St. Pankraz rises on a hill above the village , the foundation of which probably dates back to the 12th century. The core of today's church dates from the 16th century, but was completely redesigned in Baroque style in the 18th century . A striking Käsbissenturm was added to the single-nave hall church with polygonal choir in 1764 . The redesign of the interior in 1776/1777 resulted in the ceiling being furnished with attractive stucco work in the Rococo style by Martin Zobel . The stucco cartouches frame late baroque ceiling frescos by Felix Christoph Cajetan Fuchs . The paintings show saints as well as an allegory of the mystical veneration of the Heart of Jesus in the central ceiling painting . The baroque high altar with a painting of the Lamentation of Christ by Johann Michael Hunger was created around 1690 and was originally in Rapperswil. The expressive choir arch crucifix dates back to 1570. The colored glass windows in the choir by August Wanner and the gallery with organ are from the 1950s.
Chapel of St. Meinrad Oberbollingen
The early Gothic chapel from the 13th century is located on a headland not far from Schmerikon and is dedicated to Saint Meinrad . It was once owned by the Rüti monastery , but in 1260 it became the property of the Wurmsbach monastery . The chapel has a roof turret and a polygonal choir closure.
Between Bollingen and upper Bollingen stands beside a lake, lush shrine recent.
CG Jung's house
The important psychologist Carl Gustav Jung lived in a historic villa with a boathouse, hidden outside the village center on the lake shore , which became known as the “ tower ” because of Jung's own name .
