August Wanner

August Wanner (born February 21, 1886 in Basel , † July 21, 1970 in St. Gallen ) was a Swiss painter, graphic artist and sculptor .

Life

Wanner was born in Basel as the fourth of six children. After training as a flat painter and decorative painter, he attended the arts and crafts school with Albert Wagen and Fritz Schider from 1903 to 1906 . He then worked at Carl Schneider in St. Gallen. In 1908 he wandered through the Netherlands for a year and then worked as a church painter until 1911. In 1911 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he studied with Carl Johann Becker-Gundahl and Franz von Stuck until 1915 . From 1916 to 1925 he was a teacher at the trade school in St. Gallen. Then he worked as a freelance artist.

Wanner created stained glass , sand pictures and sculptures with a religious content.
