Atzmännig is a small summer and winter sports station in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen in the municipality of Eschenbach . The sports and leisure center is located northeast of Goldingen at an altitude of 824  m above sea level. M. The Atzmännig became famous for its summer toboggan run (stainless steel construction).

Atzmännig is originally the name of an alp . The Aktiengesellschaft Sportbahnen Atzmännig was founded on January 12, 1962 and has been operating the ski area since the winter of 1961/62. The summer toboggan run was added in 1977.

location

The Atzmännig lies between the Zürcher Oberland , the Linth Plain and the Rickenpass . The station can be reached by car or public transport. The proximity to the major centers of Zurich and Eastern Switzerland make the Atzmännig popular for short trips.

The main season on Atzmännig is in summer. The first summer toboggan run in Switzerland contributes to this. The track is 700 m long and overcomes a height difference of 126 m in 17 curves. A double chair lift takes you to Alp Atzmännig ( 1185  m ) in 14 minutes . The visitor is offered a beautiful panoramic view of Säntis and Churfirsten , Lintebene , Lake Zurich , Glärnisch , Mythen , Rigi , Pilatus as well as Eiger , Mönch and Jungfrau .

The area is well developed through numerous hiking trails. The approx. Three-hour circular hike from the Atzmännig mountain station via the Tweralpspitz to the Chrüzegg ( mountain restaurant) and back to the valley station is popular. The 87-kilometer Toggenburger Höhenweg runs through Atzmännig . It leads in five stages from Wildhaus via Arvenbüel and Mühlrüti to Wil .

In 2011 Atzmännig was the venue for the Grass Ski World Championship .

The ski area is divided into two parts. The large ski slope consists of the chair lift and the Atzmännig ski lift. These lead to almost 1200  m and offer six different runs. There is a restaurant with a sun terrace at the mountain station. The Brustenegg lifts are ideal for children. The double t-bar lift opens up two blue slopes. The Brustenegg slopes are illuminated.
