Goldingen is a village in the west of the canton of St. Gallen . Until December 31, 2012, it was a separate political municipality in the See-Gaster constituency . On January 1, 2013 Goldingen merged with Eschenbach and St. Gallenkappel to form the new municipality of Eschenbach .

Goldingen is about five kilometers east of Wald ZH and six kilometers northeast of Lake Zurich . The community consisted of the villages Goldingen and Hintergoldigen and numerous hamlets and individual farms. Atzmännig , a popular excursion destination with a toboggan run and ski lifts , as well as a chairlift to Oberatzmännig ( 1185  m above sea level ) is located in the rear of the Goldinger Valley .

Varia

The older form of the name is Goldelingen , documented from 1266. The place name is derived from a personal name Goldilo . The modern spelling appears from 1379.

The Goldingertal, especially the village of Goldingen and its cheese dairy, were the setting in the television film “ Die Käserei in Goldingen ”, which premiered on December 5, 2010 on Swiss television.

  • Ferdinand Rüegg (April 20, 1847 in Goldingen; † October 14, 1913 in Tübach), Bishop of St. Gallen.
  • Lilli Palmer (born May 24, 1914 in Posen , Prussia ; † January 27, 1986 in Los Angeles ), actress, author and painter, lived in Goldingen from 1960 until shortly before her death in 1986.
