Until December 31, 2012, Rieden was a political municipality in the constituency of See-Gaster in the canton of St. Gallen . On January 1, 2013, it merged with Ernetschwil to form the municipality of Gommiswald .
The community bordered the Toggenburg and offers a unique view of the entire Linth plain and Lake Zurich .
history
Rieden was mentioned for the first time in a document in 1045 as Rieta . Further documents indicate that the village was under the rule of the Schänis monastery until 1798 . During the Helvetic Republic (1798–1803), Rieden was a municipality in the canton of Linth . Later the community was merged with Kaltbrunn SG. At the request of Rieden and with the consent of Kaltbrunn, the communities were separated again in 1825 and became independent communities.

Attractions
The landmark of Rieden is the neo-baroque parish church of St. Magnus, which was built between 1912 and 1914 by the architect Adolf Gaudy . It replaced a simple previous church built in 1769.
