The station Küssnacht is one of three passenger stations on the territory of the district Küssnacht , which consists of a single community. It is located on the Lucerne – Immensee railway line , an access route to the Gotthard Railway , and forms a regional transport hub.

history

The station was opened to traffic in 1897 together with the Lucerne – Immensee line. It is located a little outside the village, on an elevated hillside. Industrial companies have therefore only sparsely settled here, the best-known being the soft cheese manufacturer Baer, which belongs to the French Lactalis group. A feed processing facility for agricultural businesses is also integrated in the building.

In 1994, the line threatened to close, including the station. In the recent past, the station has undergone major renovations twice. As part of the total closure of the Lucerne – Immensee line between 1997 and 1999, the station kept its three tracks, but traffic was only handled on tracks 2 (towards Immensee) and 3 (towards Lucerne). Track 1 was let into the side platform. It was curious that the side platform of track 3 also bordered on track 2, but was separated from it with a chain link fence. The station did not have an underpass until 2011, passengers to the trains on platform 3 always had to cross platform 2 at the same level, safety was guaranteed in 1999 by the scheduled train crossings. With the opening of the Meggen Zentrum and Luzern Verkehrshaus stops, the S-Bahn crossings had to be relocated to Immensee, which made safety considerably more difficult. For this, the renovation of the station, which was brought into play in 2003, came into play.

When Auto AG Schwyz received the concession for the river line from SGV in 2004 , they built Küssnacht station into a transport hub. There were also two new bus routes to Root D4 and Meggen . The Küssnacht station had already been served by two bus routes from Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe to Immensee and Rotkreuz. The previous bus station in front of the train station could no longer withstand the demands.

In 2008, for example, the project to build a new train station with a bus station became public and was completed in 2011. The costs of around 10 million francs were borne by the SBB and the Küssnacht district; the canton of Schwyz did not participate because it has no law on participation in public transport infrastructure projects. During the construction phase, there was a temporary stop west of the station. The central platform has been used for traffic since September 5th, and the station as a whole was opened on December 8th, 2011 as part of a ceremony.

Infrastructure

The reception building , which together with the bus station has seven parking spaces in the middle of the newly designed station square, has two gable dormers . Before the renovation, the canopy of the served traufständigen building the waiting, the adjacent freight rail was removed as part of the renovation. Together with a toilet house, the reception building is a listed building. A new signal box in Küssnacht has been in operation since June 20, 2011 .

Since the renovation of the station, there has been a central platform with two tracks, which is connected on both sides with an underpass that can be reached by stairs and elevators.

Previous offer

Until the line was renovated from 1997 to 1999, the entire feeder traffic from Lucerne to the Gotthard Railway ran via Küssnacht am Rigi. Regional trains between Lucerne and Flüelen stopped at the station, and since 1991 the Voralpen Express between Lucerne and Romanshorn. In the course of the renovation, all traffic between Arth-Goldau and Lucerne was diverted via Rotkreuz, and regional trains also ran to Rotkreuz from now on. After the reopening in 1999, the long-distance traffic connections Lucerne – Gotthard remained on the route via Rotkreuz, as this can be used at higher speeds. So that the Küssnacht district was still connected to these trains, Immensee was designated as an express train stop during the construction phase. They only run via Küssnacht if they are diverted via the Lucerne – Immensee railway line due to disruptions between Immensee, Rotkreuz and Lucerne . Nevertheless, train connections via Küssnacht were set up again, such as an hourly regional train between Lucerne and Arth-Goldau, and the Voralpen-Express , which was increased from the initial two-hour service to the hourly service. The regional train connection to Brunnen was later tied through.

Current timetable offer

The station is currently served by two trains every hour, which run every half hour. The Voralpen-Express and a line of the Lucerne S-Bahn stop every hour .

The Küssnacht train station is the second largest hub in the Auto AG Schwyz network after the Schwyz Post bus station. Three AAGS lines converge, plus two more from the ZVB. The Küssnacht train station acts as an interface between the railroad and bus traffic and thus connects communities such as Vitznau , Weggis , Greppen or Udligenswil to the rail network.

  • AAGS line 2: Küssnacht – Greppen – Weggis – Vitznau– Gersau –Brunnen – Schwyz
  • AAGS line 2E: Küssnacht – Weggis – Vitznau (express bus, linked to line 28 to form a continuous bus route)
  • AAGS line 28: Root D4 – Udligenswil – Küssnacht (continuation as 2E to Vitznau)
  • AAGS line 29: Küssnacht– Merlischachen –Meggen
  • ZVB line 22: Immensee Dorf – Immensee Gymnasium – Küssnacht
