Location of the municipality | |
Boppelsen (Swiss German: Bopplisse, ˈboplisə) is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .
geography
Boppelsen lies at 520 m above sea level. M. on the southern slope of the Lägern in the Furttal . Boppelsen is often referred to as the region's "sun parlor". Nestled between the striking Lägern and an insignificant hill, the village is characterized by a very special climate. In spring and summer, the sun's heat is stored and thus enables a special vegetation process. In autumn and winter, icy winds often blow through the small valley. Due to the slight increase, there is often more and longer snow in winter than in the rest of the Furttal. The community is mainly drained by the Dorfbach , which is also called Bacherenbach or Hulligenbach here .
The Hochwacht, a lookout point from the Lägern, is part of Boppelsen.
history
In the course of its history, the name of the place has changed from Bobpinsolo to Popensolo, then Boppensol and Bopletzen to Boppelsen. The origin and the meaning of the name can no longer be clearly explained, from "Bobpinsolo" in the year 1130 (swamp area of the Boppo, Sal or House of Bopp) becomes 1217/1222 "Popensolo", 1219 "Boppensol" and until 1667 "Bopletzen". The official place name today is Boppelsen, although the name "Bopplisse" is still used in the village itself.
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1130: On January 22nd, 1130 Lütolf von Regensberg donated the Fahr property with the chapel to Einsiedeln Monastery, which would have to build a nunnery on it. A Rudolf de Bobpinsolo also appears in the long line of witnesses listed. He was probably the service aristocracy of the important Swiss baron family of Regensberg. The de Bobpinsolos are said to have lived in a castle on the Lägern, but there are no traces of this.
According to the Zurich charter book, the barons of Bobpinsolo were liable to the Einsiedeln monastery from 1130 to 1219 . The inhabitants of Boppelsen were also liable to pay a tenth of the monasteries Wettingen , Oetenbach and Muri .
In 1409 the high level of jurisdiction passed from the Habsburgs to Zurich . In the lower court the barons of Regensberg sat in court. The barons of Regensberg exercised the low court over the village. Boppelsen remained in the Association of the Regensberg Bailiwick until 1798.
In a major fire in the village in 1649, 21 houses - two thirds of the village - were destroyed by flames. 98 people became homeless.
coat of arms
- "In gold on a floating black three-mountain, two averted, green-stemmed and leafy lilies of the valley, each bearing three silver flowers."
In 1932, the lily of the valley was designated as the municipal coat of arms instead of the von Lägern's double-headed eagle.

After a period of stagnation, the increase in young families leads to a shift in the age structure. Many people who grew up here return at some point, often with a partner and children. This is probably due to the fact that the "Bopplisser", as the residents are popularly known, see themselves as a "big family" and the bond is very strong here. In addition, a decisive reason for the popularity of the village also provides the special landscape in which it is embedded. There are some genders who have become indispensable in Boppelsen, for example the "Gassmann" and the "Mäder" who have lived here for generations.
politics
The community president is Hans-Heinrich Albrecht, he presides over the five-person council (executive body).
